Situation
Tucked into the south-east corner of the Cairngorms National Park are the Angus Glens and at the heart of them, Glen Clova. The impressive environment of forests and heatheclad hills is home to an enormous variety of wildlife including red and roe deer, red squirrels, mountain hare, red grouse, ptarmigan, buzzards and eagles - all readily spotted in Glen Clova. The River South Esk - which winds its way through the Glen, is a European Special area of Conservation, and Corrie of Fee with its outstanding botanical interest, is Caenlochan National Nature Reserve.
Glen Clova backs onto the Balmoral estate.
Activities
The Glen offers superb varied walks to suit all abilities. Fishing is available on the South Esk for brown trout, salmon and sea trout, permits are required and can be obtained from either the Clova Hotel or the local fishing club. The hotel now has its own small fishing loch and fishing for trout is available through the hotel at approx £15.00 per day.
For the keen golfer, courses suiting all levels can be found in Kirriemuir, Forfar, Rosemount , Alyth and Blairgowrie.
At nearby Kirriemuir the RSPB Loch Kinnordy reserve will be of interest to keen bird watchers.

The East coast, with its vast sandy beach of Lunan Bay, the towns of Montrose, Arbroath, Carnoustie and St Andrews is also approximately an hour by car and offers good restaurants for lunch, walks and would make a good day trip out of the Glen.
